Cancel Rent e-lobby
From the outset of the COVID-19 crisis, CAMRA has called on pub companies to do the right thing and cancel rents. Admiral Taverns, and other smaller pub companies, have already cancelled rent for their tenants.
The campaigning message here is simple. The industry standard model is that pub rents are based on turnover. It therefore follows that closed pubs should not be having any rent levied on them at this time.
CAMRA believes that the rest of the “Big Six” pubcos (Ei Group, Punch Taverns, Greene King, Star Pubs and Bars and Marstons) should be following Admiral’s example – and we want to encourage them to do so.
Cancel rents e-lobby
On Tuesday, we launched an e-lobby campaign to enable CAMRA members and the public to easily email each of the five “Big Six” Chief Executives who have not yet cancelled rent for their tenants. You can access the e-lobby here.
The response has been amazing – over 10,000 people have taken part already, meaning a total of 50,000 emails have been sent to pub companies. I want to thank all of the branches that have already helped promote the campaign online. The rest of this memo gives some suggested content for promoting the e-lobby online, and links to digital assets we have produced for you to use.
It is important to note that anyone can use the e-lobby tool – not just CAMRA members. So please do spread the word far and wide to member and non-member audiences alike.
